今天要學的第二個習慣用語是： hit the road。 Hit the road這個習慣用語的意思似乎並不難以理解，不就是“上路”的意思嗎？沒錯。 Hit the road正是這個意思，它可以用來指踏上旅途，也可以表示回家的意思。例如在下面的例子裡，那位先生和他太太正在朋友家參加 聚會。他們覺得時間已經不早，該回家休息了，於是這位先生就去跟女主人Lois道別。這時候，他就用hit the road來表示回家。請注意聽他話裡的習慣用語hit the road：
例句-2：Lois, it's getting late. It's been a great party, but it's time for us to hit the road and get home to bed. Tomorrow's a work day and we all have to get up early.
他說：Lois，時間晚了。這個聚會真盡興，但是我們該回家睡覺了。明天還要上班，我們都得早起呢。
這段話裡的hit the road意思是該回家了，當然hit the road時常也可以指踏上旅程，例如在這句話裡：
